Delightful Halloween-themed Witch Hat Cupcakes featuring chocolate cupcakes topped with a swirl of green cream cheese frosting and a decorative Oreo cookie witch hat adorned with an orange frosting band, Hershey’s chocolate kiss, and festive sprinkles.

Ingredients

Cupcakes

  • 12 chocolate cupcakes

Witch Hat Decorations

  • 6 Oreo cookies
  • 12 Hershey’s chocolate kisses
  • 1/2 batch cream cheese frosting
  • Green food coloring
  • Orange food coloring
  • White sprinkles
  • Orange sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Frosting: After making the cream cheese frosting, separate 1/2 cup of the frosting into a separate bowl for the orange band detailing on the witch hats.
  2. Color Frostings: Color the larger portion of frosting green and the smaller separated portion orange, ensuring vibrant hues for decoration.
  3. Prepare Oreo Halves: Gently split each Oreo cookie in half to create flat surfaces for assembly.
  4. Apply Orange Frosting: Place a very small spoonful of orange frosting in the center of the flat side of the Oreo cookie half to act as the hatband.
  5. Add Hershey’s Kiss and Sprinkles: Place a Hershey’s chocolate kiss on top of the orange frosting and press down gently to secure. Sprinkle white and orange sprinkles onto the frosting band for a festive look. Set assembled hats aside.
  6. Frost Cupcakes: Pipe the green frosting into the center of each chocolate cupcake, starting from the bottom and gently swirling upwards in layers, without touching the edges, to create a cone shape resembling the witch’s hat shape.
  7. Top with Oreo Witch Hats: Place one Oreo witch hat on top of each frosted cupcake.
  8. Refrigerate: Cover the cupcakes and refrigerate until ready to serve to set the frosting and keep decorations intact.

Notes

  • Gently splitting the Oreos helps keep the halves intact for assembly.
  • Use a piping bag with a star tip for smooth and attractive frosting application.
  • Store cupcakes covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days for best freshness.
  • Allow refrigerated cupcakes to come to room temperature before serving for optimal flavor.
  • Adjust food coloring amounts to reach desired shade intensity.
