A classic Waldorf Apple Salad featuring crisp apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts, all tossed in a creamy whipped cream and mayonnaise dressing. This refreshing, crunchy salad is perfect as a light side dish or a healthy snack, chilled to perfection and garnished with fresh grapes.

Ingredients

For the Dressing

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

For the Salad

  • 1 cup Granny Smith apples, diced and cored with skin on
  • 1 cup Gala apples, diced and cored with skin on
  • ¾ cup celery, finely diced
  • ½ cup green seedless grapes, halved (plus 3 to 4 extra grapes for garnish)
  • ½ cup red seedless grapes, halved (plus 3 to 4 extra grapes for garnish)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Make the Dressing: In a medium mixing bowl, use a handheld mixer on high speed to beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
  2. Combine Dressing Ingredients: Gently fold the mayonnaise into the whipped cream until fully combined. Set the dressing mixture aside.
  3. Prepare the Salad Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced Granny Smith and Gala apples, finely diced celery, halved green and red seedless grapes, and chopped walnuts.
  4. Add Lemon Juice and Sugar: Sprinkle the lemon juice and granulated sugar evenly over the apple and grape mixture.
  5. Toss the Salad: Use a large spoon to thoroughly stir the ingredients so they are evenly coated with lemon juice and sugar.
  6. Incorporate the Dressing: Carefully fold the whipped cream and mayonnaise dressing into the apple mixture until well combined.
  7. Chill the Salad: Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate the salad for 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and the salad to chill.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, garnish the salad with the reserved halved green and red grapes for an attractive presentation.

Notes

  • Use apples with skin on to add extra texture and nutrients.
  • Chilling the salad for an hour enhances the flavors and texture.
  • Walnuts can be toasted lightly to add more depth of flavor if desired.
  • You can substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter dressing option.
  • This salad is best served fresh within a day to maintain crispness.
