A Southern classic, this Sweet Potato Pie is creamy, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and baked in a flaky crust. Just like Grandma made, it’s the perfect holiday dessert or comforting treat any time of year.

Ingredients

Pie Filling:

  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 medium sweet potatoes)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Crust:

  • 1 unbaked pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. Prepare filling: In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add ingredients: Add milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Incorporate spices: Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until evenly blended.
  5. Fill pie: Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust, smoothing the top.
  6. Bake: Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until filling is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool: Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Roast sweet potatoes for richer flavor, or boil for a softer texture.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for smoother filling.
  • Cover crust edges with foil halfway through baking if browning too quickly.
  • Store covered in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
