Ingredients

Blondie Batter

  • 8 ounces unsalted butter, melted until browned
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Add-ins

  • 2 cups holiday M&Ms
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional

  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch metal baking pan with parchment paper. Spray the parchment and any exposed areas of the pan with nonstick baking spray to ensure easy removal of the blondies. Set aside.
  2. Brown the Butter: Place the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt it completely and continue cooking until it becomes browned, releasing a nutty aroma. Remove the pan from heat and let the browned butter cool for a few minutes. Then scrape the butter into a large heatproof mixing bowl.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: Whisk the brown sugar into the browned butter until well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract. Next, add the 2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk and beat the mixture until fully integrated and smooth.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients and Mix-ins: Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing just until combined to avoid overworking the batter. Then fold in the holiday M&Ms and semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  5. Bake the Blondies: Pour and scrape the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 28 to 32 minutes, or until the edges are firm and golden and the center is slightly wobbly when gently shaken.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the blondies to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before cutting into squares. If desired, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top just before serving to add a delicate salty contrast.

Notes

  • Using browned butter adds a rich, nutty flavor that enhances the blondies.
  • Make sure the eggs are at room temperature to help the batter mix smoothly.
  • Don’t overbake; the center should remain slightly wobbly to keep the blondies chewy and moist.
  • Parchment paper and nonstick spray ensure easy removal and clean edges.
  • Flaky sea salt is optional but adds a wonderful balance of sweet and salty flavors.
  • You can substitute M&Ms with other festive candies or nuts according to preference.
