Spooky White Trash is a festive, no-bake treat perfect for Halloween parties or any fun gathering. This easy-to-make mix combines crunchy pretzels, sweet candy corn, and salty cocktail peanuts all coated in smooth white chocolate for a delicious sweet and salty snack.

Ingredients

Snack Mix

  • 6 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 2 1/2 cups candy corn
  • 2 cups salted cocktail peanuts

Candy Coating

  • 12 ounces Wilton bright white candy melts or white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening (Crisco)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Mix: Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mini pretzel twists, candy corn, and salted cocktail peanuts. Stir them together thoroughly to mix all the ingredients evenly.
  2. Melt the White Chocolate: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, add the vegetable shortening and microwave for 30 seconds until melted. Add the white candy melts or white chocolate chips to the bowl and stir to combine. Microwave on HIGH in 30-second increments, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  3. Coat the Mix: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the pretzel, candy corn, and peanut mixture. Gently stir everything together to ensure the mix is evenly coated with the white chocolate.
  4. Spread and Chill: Transfer the coated mixture to the prepared parchment-lined cookie sheet. Spread it out evenly with a spatula to form a single layer. Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator and chill for about 45 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully hardened.
  5. Serve: Once hardened, break the mixture into bite-sized pieces. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment.

Notes

  • Use white candy melts for ease, or white chocolate chips as an alternative.
  • Vegetable shortening helps to make the white chocolate smooth and shiny.
  • Ensure even stirring during melting to prevent scorching the chocolate.
  • Keep the mix refrigerated if not serving immediately to maintain hardness.
  • This treat combines sweet and salty flavors for a perfect party snack.
