This S’mores Rice Krispies Treats recipe is a delicious, gooey twist on the classic Rice Krispies treat, combining the nostalgic flavors of s’mores with crunchy cereals and melty chocolate. Perfect for any occasion, these treats are simple to make with just a few ingredients and bring a perfect balance of sweet, crunchy, and chocolatey goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag jumbo marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal
  • 2 1/2 cups mini marshmallows, divided (about 1/2 of a 10-ounce bag)
  • 4 Hershey bars, broken into pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Dish: Line a 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper or butter it generously for easier removal later. Set aside.
  2. Melt Butter: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the 6 tablespoons of salted butter until completely melted and bubbling gently.
  3. Add Marshmallows: Add the entire 12-ounce bag of jumbo marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir continuously and gently until the marshmallows are fully melted and form a smooth mixture.
  4. Flavor and Combine Cereals: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Then fold in the 4 cups of Rice Krispies cereal, 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal, and 1 1/2 cups of the mini marshmallows. Stir until all cereal pieces are well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  5. Layer the Mixture: Transfer half of the cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle half of the broken Hershey bar pieces and half of the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows over this layer.
  6. Top and Press: Add the remaining cereal mixture on top, gently pressing it down to compact slightly but avoid compressing too hard to maintain a light texture. Add the remaining Hershey bar pieces and mini marshmallows on top as a final layer.
  7. Cut and Serve: Allow treats to cool and set slightly at room temperature, then cut into small squares and serve.

Notes

  • Storage: Best enjoyed the day they are made. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat briefly in the microwave for 15-20 seconds to soften before serving.
  • Freezing: Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze for up to 3 months. To thaw, leave on the counter for about 30 minutes or microwave for 15-20 seconds until warm.
  • Rice Krispies Alternative: You can substitute with another fresh puffed rice cereal or use all Golden Grahams, though texture may be denser.
  • Golden Grahams Substitutes: Crushed graham crackers, Teddy Grahams, Fiber One Honey Squares, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch work well.
  • Chocolate Variations: Use any chocolate you prefer such as chips, chunks, Ghirardelli squares, or peanut butter cups to enhance the flavors.
