Ingredients

Tostadas and Shrimp

  • 8 tostada shells
  • 1 pound medium shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Avocado Mash

  • 3 ripe avocados peeled and pitted
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 small jalapeño seeded and minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped

Toppings and Garnish

  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tomato diced
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Season the shrimp: In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Cook the shrimp: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Make the avocado mash: In a separate bowl, mash avocados with lime juice. Stir in red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and season with salt to taste, adjusting as needed.
  4. Assemble the tostadas: Spread a layer of avocado mash on each tostada shell. Top with cooked shrimp, then diced tomato. Drizzle each with sour cream.
  5. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle extra cilantro over the tostadas and serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing.

Notes

  • If jalapeños are too spicy, substitute with a milder pepper or omit entirely.
  • Mexican crema can be used instead of sour cream for a more traditional flavor.
