Perfect as a delicious side dish for meals or as a tasty snack to accompany soups and stews, this easy-to-make garlic bread is ready in just 30 minutes and serves 8 people.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter

  • 100 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (about 3 tsp)

Main

  • 1 bread loaf, approximately 30cm (12 inches) long
  • 2 – 2.5 cups (200 – 250g) mozzarella cheese, grated
  • Parsley, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) to prepare for baking the bread.
  2. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the unsalted butter with minced garlic and salt until well combined, creating a flavorful garlic butter spread.
  3. Slice Bread: Cut the bread loaf in half horizontally to create two long halves.
  4. Apply Garlic Butter: Drizzle and spread the garlic butter evenly all over the cut sides of the bread halves, making sure to cover every spot.
  5. Initial Baking: Place the bread halves on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes until the bread is crispy on the edges and slightly toasted.
  6. Top with Cheese and Bake: Increase the oven temperature to 200°C (390°F). Sprinkle the grated mozzarella evenly over the bread, then return to oven and bake for an additional 7 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with parsley if desired, cut the cheesy garlic bread into pieces and serve immediately as a complement to meals or alongside soups and stews.

Notes

  • Note 1: Use a sturdy, crusty bread loaf like a French baguette or Italian bread for best results.
  • Note 2: Freshly grated mozzarella melts better and provides the best texture and flavor.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of dried herbs such as oregano or basil to the garlic butter.
  • Serve the garlic bread warm to fully enjoy the melty cheese and crispy texture.
