This Quick and Easy Pear Crisp is a delightful dessert featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced pears topped with a buttery oat and pecan streusel. Perfectly baked until golden and crispy, it offers a comforting balance of sweet fruit and crunchy topping. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Fruit Filling

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced pears (about 6-7 medium pears) (or use a combination of apples and pears)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Streusel Topping

  • 1 stick (½ cup) salted butter, softened at room temperature
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup finely-chopped pecans
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Optional for Serving

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix the Pears: In a large bowl, combine the peeled, sliced pears with vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Toss everything gently to coat the fruit evenly with the spices and vanilla.
  3. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the spiced pear mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  4. Make the Streusel Topping: In a separate bowl, use a fork or your fingers to thoroughly mix the softened butter, flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, chopped pecans, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Mix until the topping forms lumpy, clumpy crumbs resembling a streusel.
  5. Top the Pears: Evenly spread the streusel topping over the pears in the baking dish. Optionally, sprinkle a bit more cinnamon on top for extra flavor.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crispy and the pears are soft when pierced.
  7. Cool Slightly: Remove the pear crisp from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes, allowing the juices to thicken slightly.
  8. Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature. For an extra indulgence, top with vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.

Notes

  • For extra nutty flavor, toast the pecans lightly before chopping.
  • You can substitute some or all of the pears with apples if desired.
  • Make sure the butter is softened but not melted for the perfect streusel texture.
  • This crisp can be made a day ahead and reheated before serving.
  • Use firm, ripe pears like Bosc or Anjou for best results.
