Celebrate the 4th of July with these fun and festive Patriotic Pretzel Rods! Coated in layers of red, white, and blue candy melts, these treat rods are perfect for picnics, parties, or any patriotic gathering. Easy to make and customizable with sprinkles or drizzle designs, they add a colorful and crunchy sweet twist to your holiday dessert table.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 bag pretzel rods (about 18-20 rods)
  • 1 bag white candy melts (about 12 oz)
  • 1 bag red candy melts (about 12 oz)
  • 1 bag blue candy melts (about 12 oz)
  • Patriotic sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Candy Melts: In separate microwave-safe containers, melt each color of candy melts individually. Heat in 20-30 second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each session until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler set over simmering water to melt the candy melts gently.
  2. Dip the Pretzel Rods: Pour the melted candy melts into tall, narrow glasses for easier dipping. Dip each pretzel rod about 3/4 of the way into the white candy melts first. Allow that layer to set. For the American Flag design, dip only the tip of the rod into blue candy melts. Shake off excess candy and place the rods on a parchment-lined baking sheet or wire rack to set.
  3. Prepare for Decoration: Transfer any remaining melted candy melts into piping bags or tools suitable for drizzling. If the candy thickens or cools, warm it gently in the microwave for 5-10 seconds to restore consistency.
  4. Decorate: Drizzle red and white stripes over the pretzel rods to create a festive look, adding a blue tip for the flag effect. Optionally, sprinkle patriotic sprinkles over the wet candy melts for extra decoration.
  5. Set and Serve: Allow the candy coatings to fully harden at room temperature before serving. Arrange the patriotic pretzel rods on a serving platter or stand them upright in mason jars or cups for a charming presentation.

Notes

  • Use tall glasses for easy and even dipping of pretzel rods.
  • If candy melts begin to thicken, briefly reheat to maintain smooth texture for dipping or drizzling.
  • For best results, allow each candy coating layer to fully set before adding additional colors or decorations.
  • Patriotic sprinkles are optional but add festive flair.
  • Store leftover pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
