Mummy Meatballs are a fun and spooky appetizer perfect for Halloween or any festive occasion. These bite-sized meatballs are wrapped in thin strips of pizza dough to resemble mummies, baked until golden and served with marinara sauce for a deliciously easy party treat.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 18 premade, frozen meatballs, thawed

Dough

  • 1 (11 oz.) Pillsbury thin crust pizza crust (leave rolled up)

Sauce

  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

Others

  • Bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Skewer the Meatballs: Place three thawed meatballs onto each bamboo skewer, threading them evenly to keep them secure during wrapping.
  2. Slice the Pizza Dough: Cut the rolled pizza dough into 1/4 inch wide slices. You will need about 3 strips of dough per skewer to wrap around the meatballs.
  3. Wrap the Meatballs: Carefully unroll each dough strip and wrap it around the meatballs on the skewer, creating a mummy-like appearance. Make sure to leave small gaps to expose the ‘face’ of each meatball for a spooky effect.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Place the wrapped meatballs on a baking sheet. Gently slide out the bamboo skewers so the dough-wrapped meatballs hold their shape on the sheet.
  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the mummy meatballs for 15-20 minutes until the meatballs are fully heated through and the dough turns a golden brown color.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping and enjoy your festive mummy meatballs.

Notes

  • Ensure meatballs are fully thawed before starting to promote even cooking.
  • If desired, you can add small dots of cream cheese or mustard on the exposed dough areas for ‘eyes.’
  • Use toothpicks instead of bamboo skewers if preferred for easier removal.
  • Taste and adjust marinara sauce with herbs or cheese to suit your taste preferences.
  • These can be made ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
