A rich and fudgy homemade brownie recipe with a perfect balance of butter, cocoa, and chocolate chips. This crowd-pleasing treat is easy to make and customizable with your favorite toppings like sprinkles, toffee bits, or nuts.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1¼ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Add-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (milk or semisweet), divided
  • Optional toppings: sprinkles, toffee bits, crushed Oreos, crushed candies, chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×11-inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted and cooled unsalted butter, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined and smooth.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla: Incorporate the 4 room temperature eggs and vanilla extract into the wet mixture. Mix thoroughly for about 2 minutes to ensure a uniform batter.
  4. Prepare dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder to aerate and eliminate lumps.
  5. Combine wet and dry: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, taking care not to overmix. Then fold in ¾ cup of the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Pour and top batter: Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the surface evenly. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of chocolate chips on top along with any optional toppings such as sprinkles, toffee bits, crushed Oreos, candies, or nuts.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs and the middle no longer jiggles when gently shaken.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes to set, then remove from the pan and let them cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into 12 servings.

Notes

  • For fudgier brownies, slightly underbake and allow to cool completely before slicing.
  • You can substitute vegetable oil with melted coconut oil for a different flavor profile.
  • Room temperature eggs whisk better and incorporate more air for a slightly lighter texture.
  • Using parchment paper simplifies cleanup and helps lift brownies cleanly from the pan.
  • Optional toppings add texture and flavor, customize based on preference.
