Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar

Main Ingredient

  • 2 pounds large shrimp (21-25 per pound), peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together ground paprika, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, lemon juice, olive oil, black pepper, dried basil, and brown sugar until the mixture is thoroughly blended.
  2. Marinate the Shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl and toss them well to ensure an even coating of the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the shrimp for at least 2 hours, turning them once halfway through to maximize flavor absorption.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grill grate to prevent sticking. Position the grate about 4 inches from the heat source for optimal cooking.
  4. Grill the Shrimp: Remove the shrimp from the marinade and drain off any excess liquid, discarding the remaining marinade. Place the shrimp directly on the hot grill and cook for 5 to 6 minutes, turning once during cooking, until the shrimp turn opaque and are cooked through.
  5. Serve Immediately: Once grilled, serve the shrimp hot for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For convenient grilling, thread the shrimp onto skewers before cooking to make turning easier.
  • Ensure the grill grate is well oiled to avoid shrimp sticking.
  • Do not overcook shrimp as they can become tough; watch for the translucent color to change to opaque.
  • Marinating shrimp for at least 2 hours enhances flavor, but avoid marinating longer than 4 hours as the acid can start to cook the shrimp.
  • Serve with lemon wedges or a side salad for a complete meal.
