Perfect for parties or family celebrations, the detailed fondant hats add a charming spooky touch while the buttercream frosting provides creamy sweetness. This Halloween-themed dessert is simple to make and customizable to any cupcake flavor.

Ingredients

Cupcake Base

  • 6 cooled cupcakes

Frosting

  • Prepared buttercream, enough to frost 6 cupcakes

Fondant Decorations

  • 150 g black fondant
  • 25 g yellow fondant
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • A little cooled, boiled water
  • Halloween sprinkles, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare Work Surface: Dust your work surface generously with powdered sugar to prevent fondant from sticking while you work.
  2. Roll Black Fondant: Roll out the black fondant to about 5 mm thickness. Use a 2-inch round cutter to cut out six circles, which will serve as the bases of the witch hats.
  3. Shape Fondant Cones: For each hat, shape approximately 9 g of black fondant into a cone. Brush the base of each cone lightly with cooled boiled water to act as glue, then attach it firmly to one of the black circles. Slightly curve the tip of each cone to give a whimsical witch hat appearance.
  4. Create Hatbands: Roll small portions of black fondant into ropes about 5 mm thick. Wrap one rope around the base of each cone to form the hatband, trimming any excess to fit neatly.
  5. Make Buckles: Roll out the yellow fondant to 5 mm thickness. Cut six small squares roughly 5 mm across. Place a tiny dot of black fondant in the center of each square. Attach each square over the seam of the hatband using a small amount of water as adhesive.
  6. Dry Hats: Allow the assembled fondant hats to dry completely, ideally overnight, so they hold their shape well.
  7. Decorate Cupcakes: Pipe or spread prepared buttercream frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Gently place a dried fondant witch hat on top of each frosted cupcake. Optionally, sprinkle Halloween-themed sprinkles around the hats for extra festive flair.

Notes

  • Use any cupcake flavor you prefer for the base.
  • Add the fondant hats shortly before serving to prevent the buttercream from softening the fondant.
  • Feel free to use colored fondant for the hatbands to customize your cupcakes.
