This easy peach cobbler recipe features juicy, warm peaches topped with a golden, fluffy batter baked to perfection. Ideal as a comforting dessert, it’s simple to prepare with basic pantry ingredients and makes a delightful treat served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Peach Mixture

  • 5 fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Cobbler Batter

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup milk

For Serving (Optional)

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is hot and ready when you assemble your cobbler.
  2. Heat Peaches: Place the sliced peaches into a small saucepan with 1/4 cup granulated sugar and a pinch of kosher salt. Heat over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves and the peaches begin to release their juices. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Melt Butter: Put 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter into a 9×9-inch baking dish. Place the dish in the preheated oven for a few minutes until the butter melts completely, then carefully remove the dish from the oven.
  4. Whisk Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and ground cinnamon. Stir in the milk just until the batter is combined—do not overmix for a tender cobbler topping.
  5. Assemble Cobbler: Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Spoon the warm peach mixture over the batter, leaving some small gaps so the cobbler topping can rise properly during baking. Do not stir the batter and peaches together.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes until the cobbler topping is golden brown and set in the center.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving. For an extra special touch, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Peeling peaches can be made easier by blanching them in boiling water for 30 seconds and then plunging them into ice water.
  • Don’t stir the batter and peaches after assembling; this layering helps create the classic cobbler texture.
  • Fresh peaches work best, but frozen peaches can be used if fresh are out of season—just thaw and drain excess liquid before cooking.
  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the batter.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
