This Easy Peach Cobbler Delight is a classic Southern dessert featuring juicy peaches baked under a golden, buttery batter. With warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and an optional scoop of vanilla ice cream, this comforting cobbler is perfect for a family gathering or a cozy treat.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 cups peeled peaches (if frozen, thaw and drain juice)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Batter

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Topping

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Optional

  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and melt butter. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the 1/4 cup of butter in a 9-inch glass baking dish and put it in the oven so it melts while the oven preheats.
  2. Prepare the batter. In a large bowl, combine the flour, 2/3 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk and egg, then stir until just combined into a smooth batter. Pour this batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir after pouring.
  3. Mix the peach filling. In a separate bowl, gently toss the peeled peaches with 1/3 cup sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  4. Assemble the cobbler. Spoon the peach mixture carefully over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir to keep the layers distinct.
  5. Add the brown sugar topping. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the peaches and batter to add sweetness and create a caramelized top.
  6. Bake the cobbler. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the batter turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean.
  7. Broil for crispness. For a crispier top, switch the oven to broil, and broil the cobbler for 2-3 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  8. Serve warm. Allow the cobbler to cool slightly; serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh or properly thawed, drained frozen peaches to avoid excess moisture.
  • Do not stir after layering batter and peaches to maintain a distinct cobbler texture.
  • The broiling step is optional but adds a delightful crispy top.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking blend.
