This Easy Green Bean Casserole is a classic comfort food dish combining tender green beans with a creamy mushroom sauce and topped with crispy fried onions for a delightful crunch. Perfect for holidays or a simple family dinner, it’s straightforward to prepare and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Casserole Ingredients

  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cans green beans, drained (14.5 oz each)
  • 1 1/2 cup French’s crispy fried onions (divided)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the can of cream of mushroom soup with 3/4 cup whole milk. Whisk thoroughly until smooth. Then add 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Mix to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  2. Add green beans and onions: Drain the green beans well and add them to the creamy mixture. Stir gently until the green beans are fully coated. Fold in 1/2 cup of the French’s crispy fried onions to add texture inside the casserole.
  3. Bake the casserole: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the green bean mixture into a baking dish and bake for 30 minutes. After baking, carefully remove the casserole from the oven and stir to ensure even cooking.
  4. Add topping and finish baking: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of crispy fried onions over the top of the casserole. Return it to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the onions are golden brown and crunchy, signaling the casserole is ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use low-fat milk instead of whole milk.
  • Fresh green beans can be used; blanch them before mixing for best texture.
  • Adjust seasoning with more pepper or soy sauce to taste.
  • This casserole is best served warm as a side dish.
  • Make ahead tip: Prepare the mixture in advance and store refrigerated; add onions and bake just before serving.
