This Crispy Quinoa recipe transforms simple cooked quinoa into a crunchy, toasted snack or garnish. By cooking quinoa on the stovetop and then roasting it in the oven until golden and crisp, you get a versatile ingredient that adds delightful texture and nutty flavor to salads, soups, or bowls. The process includes air-drying the quinoa before roasting to achieve perfect crispiness.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup dry quinoa (any color or a mix)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and set aside.
  2. Cook the Quinoa: In a small pot, combine 1 cup water with ½ cup dry quinoa. Place over high heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer until all the water is absorbed, approximately 15 minutes.
  3. Air Dry the Quinoa: Pour the cooked quinoa onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Use a spatula to spread it out in as thin and even a layer as possible. Small clumps are fine. Allow it to air dry for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture before roasting.
  4. Roast the Quinoa: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake the quinoa for about 35 minutes, or until it turns golden and crispy. For darker quinoa varieties like red or black, taste a small cooled sample to confirm crunchiness.
  5. Cool and Store: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the quinoa to cool completely on the sheet. Once cooled, transfer the crispy quinoa to a storage container with a tight-fitting lid. Store at room temperature for up to 24 hours for best texture.

Notes

  • Use any color quinoa or a mix to customize flavor and appearance.
  • Ensure quinoa is spread in a thin layer to promote even crisping.
  • Air drying before roasting removes moisture, improving crunchiness.
  • Roasted quinoa can be used as a topping for salads, soups, or snacks on its own.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crisp texture but consume within 24 hours for freshness.
