Apple Crisp Baked Brie combines creamy melted brie cheese with warm cinnamon-spiced apples and a crunchy oat and walnut topping for a cozy, crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for entertaining.

Ingredients

Baked Brie

  • 1 (6 – 8 oz.) wheel of brie
  • 3 tbsp. butter, divided
  • 1 large apple, such as Honeycrisp, diced
  • 2 tbsp. packed brown sugar, divided
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon, divided
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 1/4 c. old-fashioned oats
  • 8 walnut halves, roughly chopped (about 2 heaping tablespoons)
  • 1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. all-purpose flour
  • Sliced baguette, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Brie: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and place the wheel of brie in a small ovenproof skillet. Alternatively, line a small baking sheet with parchment paper so you can easily transfer the baked brie to a serving dish later.
  2. Cook the Apple Mixture: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once melted, add the diced apple, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of kosher salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender but still maintain their shape, about 10 to 12 minutes. Spoon this cooked apple mixture evenly on top of the brie.
  3. Prepare the Oat Topping: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in the microwave. Add the oats, roughly chopped walnuts, 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of all-purpose flour, the remaining tablespoon of brown sugar, and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Add a pinch of kosher salt and mix everything together using your hands or a fork until combined.
  4. Top and Bake: Scatter the oat and walnut mixture evenly over the apple layer on the brie. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melty and the oat topping is golden and crisp.
  5. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm with sliced baguette for dipping.

Notes

  • Use a good quality brie wheel for best melting and flavor.
  • Honeycrisp apples work well for their sweetness and crisp texture, but Granny Smith or Fuji apples are great alternatives.
  • Keep an eye on the baking time to avoid over-browning the oat topping.
  • Serve immediately for the best gooey texture and crunchy topping contrast.
  • Can be prepared a few hours ahead by making the apple mixture and oat topping separately, then assembling and baking just before serving.
