These Traditional Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a comforting and hearty dish perfect for a family dinner. Tender cabbage leaves are filled with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, rice, and seasonings, then baked in a rich tomato sauce until tender and delicious.

Ingredients

Cabbage Rolls:

  • 1 large head of green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound 85/15 ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • ½ cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a large 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Cabbage Leaves: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cut and remove about 1 inch from the bottom of the head of cabbage. Boil the entire head of cabbage for 4-5 minutes. Remove, drain, and peel 12 cabbage leaves.
  3. Make Tomato Sauce: Cook onion in oil, then add garlic, tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Make Meat Mixture: Combine all filling ingredients in a bowl and mash together.
  5. Assemble Cabbage Rolls: Trim cabbage leaves, add filling, and roll up. Place rolls seam side down in a baking dish.
  6. Bake in Oven: Pour tomato sauce in dish, add cabbage rolls, cover with foil, and bake for 60-75 minutes at 350°F.

Notes
