This skillet lasagna recipe takes all the flavors of traditional lasagna and simplifies them into a one-pan stovetop meal packed with rich flavors and gooey melted cheese.

Ingredients

Meat Mixture:

  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

Lasagna:

  • 9 full-size lasagna noodles, broken into small pieces (about 1 to 1 1/2 inches)
  • 23.75 to 24 ounces jarred pasta sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Cheese Mixture:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (8 ounces)
  • 1/3 cup freshly shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/4 cups freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook Meat: In a skillet, cook the ground beef and sausage until no longer pink. Drain excess grease and return to skillet. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  2. Add Lasagna Ingredients: Add broken lasagna noodles, pasta sauce, water, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes.
  3. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, mix ricotta, Parmesan, basil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer and Melt Cheese: Spoon cheese mixture over cooked noodles, top with mozzarella, cover, and cook until cheese melts.
  5. Serve: Garnish with basil and serve hot.

Notes

  • Pre-shredded cheese can be used as a substitute for freshly shredded cheese.
  • Fresh parsley can replace basil.
  • 1 pound of sweet Italian sausage can replace the beef and sausage combination.
