These Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwiches are a flavor explosion! Spicy, sweet, and crunchy seasoned fried chicken served on a toasted bun with mayo, coleslaw, and pickles.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 2 medium chicken breasts
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch (or more flour)
  • 1 teaspoon each cayenne, garlic powder, salt, black pepper

For the Dipping Oil:

  • ½ cup frying oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne powder
  • ½ teaspoon each chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder

To Assemble:

  • 4 burger buns, buttered and toasted
  • coleslaw
  • mayonnaise
  • pickles

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken: Slice chicken breasts horizontally into 4 thin cutlets. Season with salt & pepper. Mix buttermilk and hot sauce in a bowl. Combine flour, cornstarch, and spices in another bowl.
  2. Bread the Chicken: Dredge chicken in flour, then buttermilk, then flour again. Press to coat both sides.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat oil, fry chicken for 3 mins per side until crunchy and cooked through.
  4. Make the Hot Sauce: Mix hot oil with sugar and spices. Baste chicken with the mixture.
  5. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread mayo on bun, add chicken, coleslaw, pickles. Serve.

Notes

  • If you have leftovers, store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in oven or air fryer until warm and crispy.
