A hearty, homemade version of McDonald’s iconic Steak, Egg & Cheese bagel sandwich featuring seasoned steak, fluffy eggs, and melted cheese on a toasted buttered bagel.

Ingredients

  • 2 plain bagels, halved
  • 5 tbsp butter, divided
  • 1 small yellow or white onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tbsp cream (optional)
  • 8 oz thinly sliced steak (sirloin or ribeye), seasoned
  • 1 tsp Montreal steak seasoning (or Worcestershire + garlic powder)
  • Drizzle of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 slices American cheese (or smoked cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Toast the bagel halves and spread each with about ½ tbsp butter. Place a cheese slice on each bottom half.
  2. Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until soft and lightly browned. Set aside.
  3. Melt another 1 tbsp butter. Whisk cream into beaten eggs (if using) and scramble gently until just set. Divide the eggs between the bagels.
  4. Add remaining butter to the skillet. Cook seasoned steak, flipping carefully to keep it patty-shaped. Once cooked, place on top of eggs on each bagel.
  5. Top with sautéed onions, close the sandwiches, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use smoked cheddar or Swiss for a flavor twist.
  • Caramelized or grilled onions add more depth.
  • A homemade breakfast sauce with mayo, mustard, lemon juice, dill, and cheddar powder enhances flavor.
  • Store components separately and assemble fresh to avoid sogginess.
