Lemon cream cheese frosting is a velvety blend of cream cheese, butter, and zesty lemon that brings a tangy and indulgent twist to your desserts.

Ingredients

Cream Cheese Mixture:

  • 16 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature (two 8-ounce or two 453-gram packages)
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened to room temperature

Lemon Flavoring:

  • 1 tablespoon freshly zested lemon
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Sugar Mixture:

  • 7 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: Using either a stand mixer with a whisk attachment or a large mixing bowl and a handheld mixer, beat together the softened cream cheese and softened butter until well blended.
  2. Add Lemon Flavoring: Mix in the fresh lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla until incorporated.
  3. Incorporate Sugar: Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Finalize Frosting: Increase mixer speed and mix until smooth. Chill if needed before use.

Notes

  • The frosting can be made in advance and stored in the freezer until needed.
  • Ensure cream cheese and butter are at room temperature for a smooth consistency.
  • Chill the frosting for optimal piping and cake frosting.
