A delicious twist on the classic Sloppy Joes, these Italian Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes feature a savory meat filling with Italian flavors, sandwiched between garlic buttered hoagie rolls and melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garlic Bread:

  • 4 large hoagie rolls or garlic bread loaves
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sloppy Joe Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Prepare the Garlic Bread: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and garlic powder. Slice the hoagie rolls in half and spread the garlic butter mixture evenly on each side. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy.
  3. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Once the garlic bread is ready, remove it from the oven. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the garlic bread. Place the top halves on the filling and serve immediately.
