Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Additional:

  • 1 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips (or chunks)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat butter and sugars in another bowl until light and creamy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla, mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients just until combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop about 1½ tablespoons of dough per cookie, place 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
