Indulge in this decadent Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake, a delightful twist on the classic pastry. Buttery croissants mingle with melty chocolate chips in a luscious custard, creating a cozy casserole that’s perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

Croissant Base:

  • 5 large croissants (preferably day-old), cut into 1-inch pieces

Chocolate Layer:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Custard Mixture:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Optional Toppings:

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Fresh berries or whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer Croissants and Chocolate: Spread croissant pieces in the baking dish and sprinkle chocolate chips over and between the layers.
  3. Make Custard: Whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl until well combined.
  4. Soak the Croissants: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants, pressing down gently to help soak.
  5. Let Sit (Optional): Allow the mixture to sit for 10–15 minutes for optimal absorption.
  6. Bake: Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until the top is golden and custard is set. Tent with foil if browning too quickly in the last 10–15 minutes.
  7. Serve: Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with berries or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use day-old croissants for better texture.
  • For a mocha flavor, add 1 tbsp espresso powder to the custard.
  • Can be prepared ahead and refrigerated overnight for easy baking in the morning.
