This crockpot baked ziti recipe is a convenient and delicious twist on the classic oven-baked version. With layers of tender pasta, flavorful meat sauce, and creamy cheeses, it’s a comforting family favorite that’s easy to make.

Ingredients

Meat Sauce:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced (2 cloves)
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 48 ounces pasta sauce

Additional Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces baked ziti, uncooked
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella, shredded (divided)
  • Chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a skillet, cook ground beef with onions until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Season the Meat: Add garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for a minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Combine Meat and Sauce: Stir in one jar of pasta sauce with the meat mixture.
  4. Layer in the Crockpot: Pour half of the second jar of sauce into the slow cooker. Add half of the uncooked ziti, then half of the meat mixture. Layer with cheeses. Repeat layers of pasta, meat, and cheese.
  5. Cook: Cover and cook on low for six hours.
  6. Finish and Serve: Sprinkle remaining mozzarella on top 15 minutes before serving. Let it melt before serving.

Notes

  • Prepare the slow cooker with cooking spray for easier cleanup or use a liner.
  • For faster cooking, you can cook on high for three hours, but low and slow yields the best results.
