Crock Pot French onion chicken is a delightful dish that combines tender chicken breasts, savory caramelized onions, gooey Swiss cheese, and crispy fried onions, all cooked in a slow cooker to perfection. It’s a comforting meal reminiscent of classic French onion soup, especially delicious when served over buttery egg noodles or creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Chicken:

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, trimmed

Onion Mixture:

  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 1 ounce onion soup mix
  • 10.5 ounce condensed French onion soup

Toppings:

  • 1/2 cup fried onions
  • 23 slices Swiss cheese
  • Parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Prep Slow Cooker: Lightly spray the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with non-stick spray.
  2. Layer Ingredients: Place chicken breasts in the slow cooker, top with sliced onions, onion soup mix, and condensed French onion soup. Gently stir to combine.
  3. Cook: Cover and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours or LOW for 4-6 hours.
  4. Add Toppings: 30 minutes before the end, sprinkle fried onions over the chicken and place Swiss cheese slices on top of each breast. Cover and let the cheese melt.
  5. Serve: Sprinkle with parsley and serve over noodles.

Notes

  • Shred the cooked chicken if desired.
  • Can use boneless skinless thighs instead of breasts.
  • Great with noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Slow cooker times may vary.
