Ingredients

For the Baked Ziti:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ cup onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced (2 cloves)
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 48 ounces pasta sauce
  • 16 ounces baked ziti, uncooked

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Season the Meat: Stir in the basil, oregano, and pasta sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Dish: In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the uncooked ziti, followed by half of the meat sauce, half of the ricotta, half of the parmesan, and one cup of mozzarella. Repeat the layers.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.
  6. Serve: Let the baked ziti rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
