A comforting and easy-to-make dessert, this Apple Crumble combines tart Granny Smith apples with a crisp, buttery topping. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • pounds Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, sliced or diced – about 67 cups)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray an 8- or 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Stir in the melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
  4. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon until well coated.
  5. Spread apple mixture evenly in the baking dish, then sprinkle crumble topping over the top.
  6. Bake for 35–45 minutes, until filling is bubbling and topping is golden brown.
  7. Let the crumble cool for about 15 minutes before serving.
