Crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Chicken Wings coated with a dry spice rub and tossed in a homemade tangy buffalo wing sauce. This quick and easy recipe yields perfectly cooked wings with a crunchy exterior and tender inside, made healthier with the air fryer cooking method.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 4 pounds chicken wings, halved at joints, wing tips discarded
  • 2 Tablespoons baking powder (aluminum free)
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Buffalo Wing Sauce

  • 1/3 cup Frank’s Wings Hot Sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Pat dry: Use paper towels to thoroughly dry the chicken wings. Removing excess moisture is essential to achieving a crispy coating when air frying.
  2. Toss with dry spice rub: In a small bowl, mix the salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and aluminum-free baking powder. Sprinkle this seasoning mix evenly over the wings and toss to coat thoroughly.
  3. Preheat and prepare air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (204°C). Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  4. Arrange and air fry wings: Place the wings in a single even layer in the air fryer basket with the skin side facing up. Spray the tops of the wings lightly with cooking spray. Air fry the wings, turning them every 5 minutes, for about 15 minutes or until crispy and golden. Cook time may vary depending on wing size and your air fryer model, potentially taking up to 20 minutes total.
  5. Rest and prepare sauce: Remove the wings from the air fryer and let them rest for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the buffalo wing sauce by combining Frank’s Wings Hot Sauce, light brown sugar, and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved and the sauce is smooth and heated through.
  6. Toss wings in sauce: Place the rested wings in a large bowl and pour the warm buffalo sauce over them. Toss well until all wings are evenly coated with the sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the baking powder used is aluminum-free to avoid any off-flavors.
  • Drying the wings thoroughly before coating is key for crispiness.
  • Adjust cooking time according to the size of the wings and your air fryer model for optimal results.
  • The rest period after cooking allows juices to redistribute, enhancing flavor and texture.
  • Feel free to substitute the Frank’s Hot Sauce with your preferred wing sauce variation.
